| Elidel is a medication you put on your skin (topical) to treat atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema. Elidel is only for topical use and for adults and children age 2 years and older. You can use it on your face and neck. Elidel directions of use Apply a thin layer of Elidel cream 1% to the affected skin twice daily and rub in gently. Elidel may be applied to the face and neck. Elidel is used twice daily as long as symptoms persist. Treatment should be discontinued if resolution of the disease occurs. If your symptoms persist after 6 weeks you should be re-evaluated. The safety of Elidel Cream under occlusion, which may promote systematic exposure, has not been evaluated. Elidel should not be used with occlusive dressings. Precautions Before using Elidel tell your doctor if you have congenital skin disorder, Netherton's syndrome. Also tell your doctor if you have a skin infection; disease of the immune system; or are using any other type of skin product. You may not be able to use Elidel, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you have any of these conditions listed above. Elidel is in the FDA pregnancy Category C. This means that it is not known whether Elidel will harm an unborn baby. Do not take this medication without consulting your doctor first, if you are pregnant, may become pregnant or are breastfeeding. Elidel is not for use of children younger than 2 years of age. Elidel Side Effects The most common side effect is a burning or feeling of warmth at the site of application. The burning is usually mild or moderate, occurring in the first 5 days of the treatment, and the burning usually stops in a few days. Consult your doctor if your skin has a severe reaction or the side effects persist for more than a week. Other side effects include headache, common cold/stuffy nose, influenza, sore throat, fever, viral infection, and cough. Some people may get a herpes skin infection (like cold sores, chicken pox, or shingles), warts, or swollen lymph nodes. Overdose If used exactly as directed overdose should not occur. If oral ingestion occurs,seek immediate medical attention. Warnings Avoid sunlight and sun lamps, and treatments with UVA and UVB light. Protect your skin if you go outdoors. Unless your doctor instructs you differently, never apply any other skin products to the areas where Elidel is used. Storage Store at 77 degrees or in between (59 degrees F-86 degrees F). |
